Talking Hands

Pathfinders create a group choreography to a piece of Christian music using only their hands, and then explore how their hands in gloves are like God being in us and guiding our actions.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Describe how God lives in the Christian
  2. Plan, practice and perform movement to a Christian song
  3. Relate positively to others in group work activities

Summit Time

Each participant attempts to complete an assigned task at four work stations in two minutes. This stimulus activity then moves into exploring the importance of making a commitment to spending regular time with God – really getting to know the Person.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Experience the frustration of not having sufficient time
  2. Discuss the importance of time in forming relationships
  3. Set goals for making time for God

Splash!

Pathfinders learn about the importance of water in their daily lives for nutrition, fun and hygiene. From there, they explore the ways in which God has told us that He will ‘wash us clean’.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:
1. Learn about the importance of water in our daily lives, and what it does for us
2. Work together with their team to write and perform a drama relating to the importance of water
3. Discuss how God ‘washes us clean’

Spot Speeches

Participants randomly select a Bible topic/issue from a hat and are given five minutes to prepare a two minute speech. During their discourse, the audience may stop them at any time with one of three complaints: deviation, hesitation or repetition. Speeches are timed. The one lasting the longest wins (if no one actually reaches the assigned time).

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Display confidence in public speaking
  2. Respect others during their speech
  3. Apply scripture knowledge to their individual speech

Steps to Love

Pathfinders rewrite a portion of Ellen White’s ‘Steps to Christ’ as a means of both translating it into language with which they can identify, and appreciating the thoughts expressed therein.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Translate19th century English into modern language
  2. Decipher the meanings of some lesser used words
  3. Describe the advantages of using modern language in spreading the Gospel

Pathfinders learn about bullying and make a set of posters for display.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Recall facts about bullying
  2. Demonstrate the ability to participate

  4. Work together as a group to put together a display

Story

Pathfinders bring a favourite Bible story to life by scripting it, starring in it, producing it and videoing it. They then hold a ‘Premier Showing.’

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Plan, script and rehearse a favourite Bible story
  2. Explore and portray the message of the chosen story
  3. Reflect on how this Pursuit has enhanced understanding of both the story and God

Storypath

Pathfinders use the essentials of a story: setting, characters and plot, to create an historical diorama (miniature model) relating to an incident in Church history. ‘Visitors’ from history drop in on the group, adding light to their exploration.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Research the historical setting of a story from our church history
  2. Construct a diorama for display
  3. Reflect on group dynamics as this Pursuit was completed

Pathfinders pause to think of someone they haven’t seen or made contact with in a while and send them an encouragement postcard.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:

  1. Create a list of people who may need a word of encouragement
  2. Design a postcard
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to careful work
  4. Send the postcard to a chosen person

Suck It Up

By participating in some breathing exercises, Pathfinders learn how vital air is to great health.

Through participation in this Pursuit, the Pathfinder will:
1. Discover how short a time they can survive without air
2. Learn about lungs and air
3. Find out how effective their air flow is
4. Practice correct breathing techniques
